NEW CUMBERLAND, Pennsylvania –
Deneen L.M. Diggs, chief of Missions and Manpower within DLA Distribution’s J9 Expeditionary Logistics, graduated salutatorian from the Martin Luther King Leadership Development Institute of Harrisburg, Pa., on June 26.
Diggs, who retired from the U.S. Army with 20 years of service, began the program this past September. She holds a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Colombia College, an advanced certificate in logistics management from Penn State Harrisburg and an MBA from Eastern University.
“Deneen is an exceptional person and one of the many reasons DLA Distribution is a great place to work,” said Polly Charbonneau, deputy director of Distribution’s J9 Expeditionary Logistics. “She is never content to better herself, she helps everyone around her.”
The MLK Leadership Institute is a program of the Interdenominational Ministers Conference of Greater Harrisburg. The mission of the institute is "to prepare and empower individuals committed to exercising creative leadership to improve conditions in the greater Harrisburg community." According to institute President Joseph Robinson Jr., the institute was organized in 2008 and graduated its inaugural class of "scholars" in 2009.
According to the Institute’s application, the class is designed around the tenants of Tavis Smiley's "The Covenant with Black America" with six areas of emphasis – education, economic development, quality of life, racial opportunity and harmony, infrastructure and leadership. Classes meet monthly at Penn State Harrisburg from September to May.
