Army Col. Corey A. New, commander of Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Susquehanna, Pa., has been awarded the Legion of Merit for his distinguished 25-year military career.  New will retire in a ceremony tomorrow, Aug. 5, prior to the organization’s change of command ceremony, where New will relinquish command to Army Col. Brad Eungard.

As commander of the Susquehanna facility, New used his expertise in strategic-level logistics to ensure that over five million mission-critical parts were shipped annually to all branches of the Armed Services, federal and civilian agencies, foreign military sales, and multiple combatant commands globally.

Under New’s leadership, the organization supported Operation United Assistance to help contain the Ebola virus in Africa, earning the team honors as DLA Team of the Year.

He set the performance standard, achieving more than 90 percent in all tracked performance metrics, and led the way in Audit Readiness for the DLA enterprise.  Under his leadership, the facility improved its safety standards, and used innovative ways to succeed through reductions, all while maintaining the mission of supporting the warfighter.

DLA Distribution Susquehanna is the Department of Defense’s largest facility, and has more than 15 million square feet of storage space and employs more than 1,700 personnel.  “Colonel New’s leadership is unparalleled and sets the true example of integrity, accountability, and respect,” said Perry Knight, DLA Distribution’s chief of staff.
