RICHMOND, Va. –
A new video in the Defense Logistics Agency’s “Logistics On Location” series highlights the support DLA Aviation personnel provide the Army’s 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, based in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
The brigade must be ready at all times to deploy anywhere in the world with as little as 96 hours’ notice, Army Chief Warrant Officer 2 Roger Passie, the aviation materiel officer for the brigade, explains in the approximately three-minute segment.
The main aircraft the unit supports are the OH-58 Kiowa, UH-60 Black Hawk and CH-47 Chinook helicopters.
To keep the aircraft ready to go, they rely on DLA Aviation to supply any of the 349 line items of stock materiel. “On a daily basis, we could order $500 to $2 million worth of parts, depending on the maintenance criteria,” Passie said.
DLA provides 30-40 percent of those parts, added Chief Warrant Officer 2 Claudia Snowden. “The items I get and the service I get is really excellent with DLA,” she notes in the video.
Soldiers from other activities in the brigade also discuss their support for the unit's rotary-wing aircraft, including ordering, receiving and transporting repair parts; repairing avionics, weapons and engines; and filtering and pumping approximately 1,500 gallons of fuel per day.
“It’s important for us to get our parts immediately so we can meet the missions and support the other units that have field exercises and support the daily flights,” explained Army Spc. Colton Sheridan, an avionics, weapons and electronics repairer.
