Employees who volunteered to tutor local students were among more than 40 Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support employees to be honored during a Quarterly Awards ceremony Sept. 28.
Approximately 20 Project Government and Industry Volunteers for Education participants received certificates of appreciation from DLA Troop Support Commander Army Brig. Gen. Charles Hamilton. The volunteers tutored third grade students at Benjamin Franklin Elementary school bi-weekly during the 2015-2016 school year.
Hamilton recognized each awardee for their respective accomplishments, including Stephen DiLizio, business process analyst, for his service during the Vietnam War. Hamilton also recognized Matthew Gigantino, a chemist in the DLA Land and Maritime Product Testing Center who recently earned his Lean Six Sigma green belt.
“No matter if it’s one or eight [awards], I really enjoy doing this,” Hamilton said.
Tailored vendor logistics specialist Sonja Bronner was one of three employees to receive a Superior Civilian Service Award. She served as a warfighter support representative for the DLA Support Team Kuwait in support of Operations Freedom Sentinel, Spartan Shield and Inherent Resolve.
“She worked diligently to expedite shipments of protective wall barriers to forward-deployed field units positioned in Iraq to enhance force protection of joint and coalition personnel,” master of ceremonies and Executive Officer Susan Schafer said.
