RICHMOND, Virginia –
Defense Logistics Agency Aviation Commander Air Force Brig. Gen. Allan Day hosted the annual Combined Federal Campaign kicked-off Oct. 4, in the Lott’s Conference Center on Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia.
Day welcomed DSCR employees as well as special guests Victoria Adams, managing director of the Campaign Administration for Global Impact, who also leads the strategic planning and implementation of CFC campaigns in the National Capital Area, overseas, New York City and Central Virginia. Day also welcomed Alison Faulk, customer services manager and customers advocate at McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond, who is serving as the 2016 CFC Loaned Executive and will assist the DLA Aviation campaign managers with the campaign.
Day recognized the Central Virginia CFC 2016 Local Federal Coordinating Committee, campaign managers and the keyworkers.
The guest speakers for the event were: Kate Lawton, from “The Doorways”, a community outreach service to house and feed homeless; Holly Graf, ambassador for ShelterBox USA, an organization that supplies temporary homes for global disaster victims; and Wayne Swatlowski from Project Homes, an organization that assists citizens who need help with quality of life home improvements.
“Since the installation’s first campaign in 1967, we have exceeded our goal almost every year and you are the reason we have been so successful,” said Day.
“Through good and bad economic times, DSCR employees have stepped up and helped their fellow co-workers, neighbors, and community members, through many of the 50 local charitable organizations, of which some are here today,” said Day. “This year’s theme is “Show Some Love” and our goal is to raise $309,430.”
“We have an excellent opportunity to make a positive impact. Remember, just as we support our warfighters in our daily jobs, we have an opportunity here to answer the call to help others,” said Day. “You probably know folks that have had a rough year and there are folks who need our help right here in Central Virginia. I think what it really takes is a decision … a decision to take part in helping your community,” said Day.
Last year federal employees pledged almost $732,000 to the Central Virginia CFC. Day added, of that total, more than $269,000 was donated to our local area charities, making a direct positive impact on our communities here in the Metro Richmond area.
