DSCR supports local community during annual Feds Feed Families food drive

By Amy T. Clement

Defense Logistics Agency Installation Support at Richmond spearheaded the annual Feds Feed Families campaign on Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia, July 5 - Aug. 25.

The annual campaign is run by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

According to the USDA’s website, “Feds Feed Families was created to help food banks and pantries stay stocked during summer months when they traditionally see a decrease in donations and an increase in need.”  This year’s campaign is titled "Feds Unite Against Hunger."

All federal agencies are asked to participate in Feds Feed Families each year and share their donations with local food banks in states across the country. All food collected on DSCR was donated to the FeedMore Central Virginia Foodbank.

This year, DLA employees on DSCR collected and donated 199 pounds of food.

DLA Installation Support at Richmond’s Jami Zanetta, health promotion coordinator, managed DSCR’s campaign and coordinated food collections and donations. Placing three collection boxes in common areas around DSCR for employees to donate items.

According to FeedMore, 1.2 pounds of food is the equivalent of one meal for one person. “So the donations provided by DLA employees on DSCR equals almost 166 meals to our neighbors in need,” said Zanetta.
