Richmond, Va. –
Demolition of Building 33 on Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia, continues as part of Phase 2 for the Defense Logistics Aviation Operations Center. Destruction began earlier this year with most of it happening over the past month.
Demolition and drilling of geothermal well fields will be complete before construction of the new building begins. The Phase 2 building, when completed, will be a 281,064 square-foot facility which is almost a mirror image of Phase 1. The project is slated to continue over the next two-and-a-half years and is expected to be completed in December 2023.
Like Phase 1, which officially opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony in June 2019, the Phase 2 building will also boast energy efficiency as a hallmark of the new facility with features including a renewable energy geothermal well field system that uses the earth as a heat source in winter or heat sink in the summer. The building will also have energy efficient light sensors, touchless water faucets, and low-fill toilets.
