DLA Distribution initiates mapping operations at Fort Bragg

By DLA Distribution New Business DLA Distribution Public Affairs

On August 16, DLA Distribution’s newest operation, DLA Distribution Mapping at Fort Bragg, delivered its first shipment, consisting of four topographic maps for mission planning, to local customers.

Located at the U.S. Forces Command Intelligence Readiness and Operations Center at Fort Bragg, N.C., the warehouse is part of a joint operation between the National Geospatial Agency, FORSCOM, and three DLA primary-level field activities: DLA Aviation, DLA Document Services, and DLA Distribution.

Distribution’s mission is to provide both over-the-counter delivery to local customers and, depending upon issue priority, shipping of Geospatial Intelligence Products to customers within a 50-mile radius. In addition to direct delivery, the operation will include building unit packs for exercises and operations in the future. Production by a co-located Print On Demand facility, managed by DLA Document Services, is also available for printable items not stocked at the warehouse.

The DLA Distribution Mapping Fort Bragg warehouse provides 10,000 square ft. of acclimatized, racked bay storage and is staffed by three distribution personnel including a supply management specialist, project manager, and supply technician.

The facility’s hours of operation are 0800 to 1630 Monday through Friday, with emergency operations available as needed.

This operation replaces the former Geospatial Readiness Center which was destroyed by a tornado in April of 2011. By leveraging its partnership with FORSCOM and the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, the Defense Logistics Agency is able to provide accelerated customer delivery while reducing inventory and infrastructure investment at Fort Bragg.
