Forums aim to improve employee readiness during emergencies

Defense Logistics Agency Installation Support at Richmond, Virginia, held a National Preparedness Month Open Forum Sept. 8 on Defense Supply Center Richmond.

Sessions were held both in the morning and afternoon in the McKeever Auditorium on center where employees were provided with information, asked questions and had open dialogues with DLA officials from the police, fire and emergency services, criminal intelligence, physical security and antiterrorism offices.  Topics included information on base access control, including the Defense Biometric Identification System, more commonly known as DBIDS.  DBIDS is the system DLA Police use to scan access cards of persons entering the installation. 

Officials went over the AtHoc Emergency Notification System – a tool employees can use to sign up to receive base closures and other operation status changes via text, phone calls and emails on their personal communications devices.  Information was shared on the iWatch DLA antiterrorism program, and evacuation and shelter-in-place locations were also discussed.  The event was geared towards helping employees improve readiness for all types of emergencies – both on and off the job.
