Refrigeration Equipment and Appliances
Section 7401 of Reference (q) (also known as "the Clean Air Act of 1990") requires certain substances that have destructive effects on the ozone layer (including CFCs, halons, carbon tetrachloride, methyl chloroform and hydro CFCs (HCFCs)) not be vented to the environment and be phased out from production over an extended period of time as described for class I and class II Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS).
Note: Refrigerants, halons, and ODS recovery cylinders required by the Reserve will not be turned in to the DLA Disposition Services sites.
Disposition Services doesn’t coordinate the disposition of ODS, they have to get turned in to Aviation for the ODS Reserve. To learn more about turning in ODS, please visit the DLA Aviation page.
Transferring excess refrigeration equipment and appliances containing refrigerants (e.g., enameled white goods such as household refrigerators, room air conditioners, water coolers) and other refrigeration equipment listed at Figure 18, eligible for RTDS, will be accomplished through the use of a MOU between DLA Disposition Services and the generating activity to define responsibilities and ensure certified equipment and technician recovery of the refrigerants if the property fails RTDS.
