Colonel Theodore B. Shinkle became the Commander of DLA Europe & Africa on June 29, 2017. Prior to this command, he was the Chief of The 21st Theater Sustainment Command is U.S. Army Europe's lead organization for all sustainment activities including logistics support, transportation, combat sustainment, human resources, finance, contracting and other areas in the field of sustainment.
A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Colonel Shinkle earned his commission in the Ordnance Corps from the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky in 1996.
Colonel Shinkle’s command assignments include Battalion Commander, 264th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 82nd Sustainment Brigade, XVIII Airborne Corps; Company Commander, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 82nd Division Support Command (DISCOM), 82nd Airborne Division; and Bravo Company, 407th Forward Support Battalion, 82nd Division Support Command (DISCOM), 82nd Airborne Division.
Colonel Shinkle’s Army experiences include: Sustainment Chief G-4, 82nd Airborne Division; Aide de Camp, Commanding General, United States Forces Command (FORSCOM); Secretary of the General Staff, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault); Battalion Executive Officer and Support Operations Officer, 129th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 101st Sustainment Brigade; Logistics Planner and Observer Controller, Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC); Assistant Support Operations Officer, 782nd Main Support Battalion, 82nd Division Support Command (DISCOM) and Executive Officer and Platoon Leader, Forward Support Company 1-508th Infantry Battalion, Southern European Task Force (SETAF).
Colonel Shinkle’s combat experiences include: Secretary of the Combined and Joint General Staff, Combined Joint Task Force-101, Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan; Battalion Executive Officer, 129th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 101st Airborne Division, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Iraq; and Company Commander, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 82nd Division Support Command, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Iraq.
Colonel Shinkle holds a Masters of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University, a Masters of Military Operational Art and Science from the United States Air Force Air and Staff College and a Masters of Science in National Resource Strategy from the National Defense University.
Colonel Shinkle’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, multiple foreign awards, Combat Action Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, and the Air Assault Badge. His unit awards include the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation and Army Superior Unit Award.
He is married to the former Angela Lynn Ball of Louisville, Kentucky. They have two children; Andrew and Adam.
