The Defense Supply Center Columbus Eagle Eye Golf Course has received the Monarchs in the Rough habitat designation from Audubon International. The program aims to create habitat for the Monarch butterfly and other pollinators in rough or out-of-play areas on golf courses nationwide. A Monarch caterpillar sits on one of the milkweed plants Audubon supplied this year. Milkweed serves as the only host plant for the Monarch butterfly. Monarch caterpillars eat the leaves to become large enough to pupate and form a bright green chrysalis which after several days becomes an adult Monarch butterfly.
