DLA Distribution recognizes former commanders in honor of 25th a
Army Lt. Gen. James Pillsbury, retired, was DLA Distribution’s 3rd commander from August 2000 to August 2002. During his tenure, Pillsbury solidified DLA Distribution as the distribution proponent for the Defense Department and transformed the organization into an efficient and effective logistics foundation for the CINCs and Military services. His initiatives include the Strategic Distribution Management Initiative, a partnership with U.S. Transportation Command, the implementation of Net Landed Costs for customer processing where customers were billed for their level of effort and actual transportation, and the implementation of a Material Processing Center to create a one-stop supply and service delivery capability for afloat customers. Additionally, Pillsbury implemented two major system upgrades to DSS, a standard automated system for distribution processing of DoD materiel. The initiatives spearheaded by Pillsbury at DLA Distribution enabled the organization to optimize its global distribution system. Through best business practices in supply chain management, DLA Distribution continues to provide effective support to our warfighting customers and remains relevant for the future in the ever-changing DOD environment.
