Assistant deputy commandant for Installation and Logistics, Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps visits DLA Distribution San Joaquin

DLA Distribution San Joaquin, California’s former commanding officer, Marine Brig. Gen. Keith D. Reventlow, assistant deputy commandant for Installation and Logistics (Plans), Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps, recently visited the San Joaquin team May 8. He met with the distribution center’s commanding officer Marine Col. Andre Harrell and key senior staff members to discuss various initiatives to improve and sustain warfighter materiel readiness.

"It is really impressive to see all the positive improvements Team San Joaquin has made over the last two years, all of which directly result in better support to the joint warfighter,” commented Reventlow.

Harrell started the visit with a command overview presentation and a windshield tour of the 453-acre installation.  The staff also exchanged numerous ideas regarding supply and transportation integration and how DLA Distribution San Joaquin could improve delivery response time to Camp Pendleton, California, by establishing new scheduled truck lanes for multiple customers.

The first stop was at the freight terminal with emphasis on the Marine Corps scheduled truck lanes. The Scheduled Truck Program serves CONUS customers and features customized delivery schedules, reduced transit times and items packed to suit the warfighter.

Next, he stopped at the Unitized Group Ration mission. The distribution center is the sole DoD provider of UGR-Heat and Serve and UGR-M meals. The San Joaquin team assembles these meals for the services and, specifically, assembles the UGR-M for the U.S. Marine Corps.

The last stop was the Consolidation and Containerization Point. The CCP is the Strategic Distribution Platform for the U.S. Pacific Command Area of Responsibility. Reventlow had the opportunity to see the CCP re-design layout which will improve cross dock operations, increase processing capability by 50 percent and effectively optimize cube utilization for seavan transport to customers in the Pacific.

“During his tenure at DDJC, Brig. Gen. Reventlow laid the foundation for several infrastructure and operational improvements across the installation.  His leadership helped us through sequestration, the transition from Sharpe Army Depot, which consisted of the relocation of 153,000 line items, and the successful implementation of numerous improvements to the UGR  mission,” commented Harrell.  “He has left an indelible mark at DDJC and his visit served as a welcomed homecoming for Team San Joaquin.”

Reventlow transferred from San Joaquin in June 2016 to Marine Corps Logistics Command, Albany, Georgia. While in Albany he was selected for the rank of Brigadier General and transferred into his current position at the Pentagon.
