Distribution Sasebo sailors volunteer time to local orphanage

DLA Distribution Yokosuka Japan detachment Sasebo

DLA Distribution Yokosuka, Japan at Sasebo sailors, Navy Logistics Specialist 1st Class Mark Alvaro, Logistics Specialist 2nd Class Enrito Jambalos and Logistics Specialist Seaman Recruit Jonathan Schroeder along with other USO Sasebo volunteers spent their Saturday morning handing out gifts and spending quality play time with Japanese children living at a local orphanage on July 14.

The USO Sasebo “Christmas in July” event distributed Japanese themed gifts, then the volunteers and nearly 40 Japanese orphans unwrapped and put the toys to good use, creating an atmosphere of fun, laughs and togetherness.

“You could really tell the kids were having a great time,” said Alvaro, logistics petty officer of Detachment Sasebo.

Through their selfless dedication and positive attitude, the sailors of DLA Distribution Yokosuka detachment Sasebo have not only created a lasting impression on the hearts and minds of Japanese orphans in Sasebo, they also gained strides in maintaining the strong positive bond between Sasebo, Japan and the U.S. personnel stationed in the area.
