RICHMOND, VA –
Twenty-four Army civilians, attending a two-week Army Logistics University Master Logistician Course being held at Fort Lee, Virginia, spent time at Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia, Jan. 30.
During the half-day visit, the group, which gathered at the Defense Logistics Agency Aviation Operations Center, received briefings on DLA, DLA Aviation, activity planning processes and data management, and also learned the different tasks a materiel planner performs on a daily basis.
ALU Course Director Army Capt. Garrett Chandler said the session gave the group a chance to see the DLA facilities, interact with DLA personnel and receive a lot of good information.
“Hopefully they get a better understanding of how things work between the Army and DLA that will help improve the relationship between the two entities,” said Chandler.
The visit was part of ongoing efforts by the Defense Logistics Agency Aviation’s Command Support Directorate’s Career Development Branch to ensure a close alliance between the DLA Aviation workforce and the military and civilian logistics community.
“This is the fourth ALU visit that we’ve organized and it is our pleasure to bring military logistics leaders in to receive an Aviation overview,” said Trinace Johnson, program analyst and project manager for the DLA Aviation Command Support Directorate’s Career Development Branch. “These are students who will potentially have day-to-day interactions with Aviation. We are building strong partnerships with them now by sharing how Aviation operates. Ultimately this partnership strongly benefits our mutual support for the Warfighter.”
It also falls in line with DLA's Strategic Plan, focusing on leveraging the joint logistics enterprise as well as ensuring service readiness and lethality.
