COLUMBUS, Ohio –
Federal workers have another opportunity to donate to the Combined Federal Campaign beginning today – this time in support of charities working overtime in the coronavirus pandemic fight.
The U.S. Office of Personnel Management approved a special COVID-19 solicitation period running through June 30.
Federal employees, retirees and military members workers can donate through the CFC’s online giving portal or the mobile CFC Giving app. All proceeds will go directly toward one of the CFC charities, OPM said.
“In this time of great uncertainty, we have the opportunity to help and to lead by example,” OPM announced in a release. “The COVID-19 global pandemic has put a strain on resources everywhere: medical, financial, educational, emotional, social and more. Nonprofit organizations face increased demand for their services responding to the needs of COVID-19 victims but they struggle with reduced resources due to limited donations and canceled fundraising events.”
In the last six years, total CFC donations from Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime federal employees at the Defense Supply Center Columbus topped $1.1 million.
“The selflessness displayed by our federal workers and military service members is a constant reminder to me of how fortunate we are to be part of this caring community and the DSCC workforce,” said Navy Rear Adm. John Palmer, commander of DLA Land and Maritime. “This special COVID-19 effort is another opportunity to share their commitment to supporting our nation’s needs through their generous contributions.”
During the special solicitation, the CFC online pledge portal and mobile giving app will accept supplemental, one-time or recurring donations to CFC-participating charities via credit card, debit card or bank transfer. Employees who did not already make a payroll pledge during the 2019 campaign have the additional opportunity to pledge via a payroll allotment – with the final recurring pledge installment ending during the Jan. 15, 2021 pay period.
Federal employees can also pledge volunteer time with select charities.
Charities will not be charged a distribution fee, OPM said.
Donations made through the pledge portal or app may be distributed to charities as early as May 15.
