What the holidays mean to me: James Campbell

DLA Aviation Public Affairs

During the month of December, DLA Aviation Public Affairs will be running a special series of stories titled “What the holidays mean to me.” The purpose is to spotlight members of the DLA Aviation workforce during the holidays.

Name: James Campbell

Organization: DLA Aviation at Jacksonville, Florida

What is your job title, and what do you do, specifically? I am a customer service specialist. I ensure our customers receive their material in a timely fashion. This is accomplished via expedite of material requisitions, monthly requisition launches, emails, vendor collaboration, daily meetings and feedback to and from our customers.

What do the holidays mean to you? The holidays mean a break from work and school, but most of all, spending time with family. The time spent with them is all the joy I need, and it helps me get through another year.

What are your fondest holiday memories? My fondest holiday memories were when I first retired from the military in 2006, going home for the holidays and having all of us in one place at my parents’ house. Couldn’t ask for a better Christmas.

What is your favorite holiday tradition? My favorite holiday tradition is cooking dinner for 30 people, knowing only 15 people are actually coming to dinner. We always cook extra because you never know who else will ring the doorbell.

Name your favorite holiday song and why it’s your favorite?  “This Christmas” by Chris Brown is one of my favorite holiday songs because it highlights a particular Christmas you are thankful for life, family and friends and everything that made it so special. My second favorite holiday song is “Christmas in Hollis” by Run-DMC. It reminds me of growing up, the ups and downs that life brings, everything you see around you, everything in your past and the hope for a better tomorrow.
