RICHMOND, Va. –
Oscar Moore , was awarded the DLA Aviation Leadership Award for November 2021. Moore is a supervisory inventory management specialist in the Component/Indirect Material Planning and Support Branch at Defense Logistics Agency Aviation at Cherry Point on Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina.
This award recognizes DLA Aviation leaders who exemplify the four leadership traits deemed by the agency as the characteristics needed to be a good leader. These traits are referred to as the four dimensions of transformative leadership: idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation and individualized consideration.
“I feel humbled to receive this award,” Moore said. “I feel that this is a direct reflection of the hard work my team does on a daily basis to support our customer in spite of our current environment.”
Per the award citation, Moore builds confidence and trust among his 15 employees by always communicating information that he receives from DLA Aviation at Cherry Point leadership that impacts them. He also breaks down task requirements and explains how they affect their overall mission.
“Mr. Moore is a good leader because he explains how various actions may appear to be unimportant but, in the end, will affect the overall mission in a major way,” said Jeffrey Jones, a sustainment specialist on Moore’s team. “Mr. Moore is very knowledgeable about planning and support processes and mentors his employees on a regular basis. We are challenged by him constantly to be innovative in our problem solving and he provides creative solutions for hard-to-solve issues we encounter daily.”
“I was truly surprised [at receiving the award] because the majority of work as a supervisor is behind the scenes and intangible. I strive to make sure my team has what they need to support our customer and ensure they get the credit and recognition they deserve,” said Moore.
Jones said Moore has a unique ability to challenge the status quo while teaching his employees how to better support the warfighter and develop their skills at the same time.
“Mr. Moore not only coaches the team as a whole, but he also coaches us individually based on our career goals and individual job duties,” Jones said.
“It’s always important for an agency to recognize employees for their accomplishments, even if it’s something as simple as a ‘Thank You,’” Moore said. “For this reason, I am humbled and greatly appreciative of this recognition. However, this is not just a win for me but for the entire DLA Aviation at Cherry Point team.”
