Navy Capt. Horatio “Jack” Tan, Supply Corps, relinquished command of Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Yokosuka, Japan, to Navy Cmdr. Ian Iliff June 23, 2022. DDYJ is a strategically located joint distribution support solution for the Western Pacific, Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf.
Under Capt. Tan’s leadership, and through the COVID-19 pandemic, DDYJ accomplished the mission while maintaining inventory accuracy, accuracy to customers and audit readiness. Tan oversaw a geographically dispersed workforce of over 300 Japanese nationals, 40 U.S. civilians, and 30 U.S. military personnel. DDYJ is responsible for more than 52,000 line items valued at over $326 million.
Taking the helm of leadership is Navy Cmdr. Ian Iliff, SC, a native of Cumberland, Maryland, and 2003 graduate of Frostburg State University, with a bachelor's degree in business finance. He earned a Master of Business Administration from Emory University, Goizueta School of Business. He also completed an executive program in leadership at University of Virginia, Darden School of Business.
His operational assignments include supply officer, USS Augusta; food service officer, assistant supply officer, HAZMAT officer, aviation stores officer, USS Bonhomme Richard; aviation stores officer, USS Eessex (LHD 2); and deputy logistics director, Joint Special Operations Task Force – Philippines.
His shore assignments include Fleet Logistics Support Officer at CTF-53, Manama, Bahrain; Navy Supply Corps Intern at Navy Supply Information Systems Activity, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; Engines Integrated Weapons Systems Team Branch Head and E-2/C-2 IWST Director at NAVSUP Weapons System Support, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Aviation Readiness Analyst and Readiness Division Director, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations; and N41 Logistics & Readiness Director, Naval Forces Europe/Naval Forces Africa/Commander 6th Fleet.
Commander Iliff’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal, and various campaign citations.
