Commander sees firsthand support DLA Aviation at San Diego provides to the warfighter

By Leon Moore DLA Aviation Public Affairs

Since taking over as Commander of Defense Logistics Agency Aviation in Richmond, Virginia at the end of June, Air Force Brig. Gen. Sean Tyler has made it a priority to see firsthand the support those Aviation employees based at sites outside of Richmond provide to the nation’s warfighters on a daily basis.

That vow took him to DLA Aviation at San Diego Aug. 24 and 25.

Tyler, who was accompanied on the trip by Navy Capt. Ronald Hoak, chief of DLA Aviation’s Customer Operations Directorate’s Navy Customer Facing Division, DLA Aviation Richmond, was able to meet and chat with employees as he toured the DLA Aviation spaces. Tyler also got a chance to present length of service and Aviation employee of the 2nd quarter awards.

During the two-day visit, led by Navy Cmdr. Frederic Albesa, officer-in-charge, DLA Aviation at San Diego, Tyler toured the Navy F-18 fighter jet production line at Fleet Readiness Center Southwest Industrial Support Center on Naval Air Station North Island, California.  He met with Navy senior leaders across the FRC enterprise to discuss DLA support.

He also received several briefings while at FRCSW, including one detailing new milling machines and their abilities to perform various types of work in mere hours rather than several days or weeks, and a new process to paint aircraft canopies that reduces maintenance production repair time.
