NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. –
Defense Distribution Center, Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, and Defense Logistics Agency Installation Management at Susquehanna’s, Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation joined forces to recognize their military and civilian workforce and their families during the annual SummerFest and Organization Day in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania, Aug. 7.
The event kicked off with an opening ceremony keynoted by Army Col. Samuel Miller, former commander, DLA Distribution Susquehanna, Pennsylvania.
“SummerFest and Organization Day is a way to celebrate another year of hard work and excellence accomplished by every member of this team,” Miller remarked. “Today isn’t just an opportunity to celebrate the successes of the DLA Distribution Susquehanna team, but an opportunity to celebrate the successes of the entire DLA Susquehanna family – we recognize our tenant activities and family members that play a vital role in accomplishing our mission.”
The event was the last for Miller as commander, who passed responsibility for the distribution center to Navy Capt. Andrew Henwood Aug. 9.
Robert Montefour, site director, DLA Installation Management at Susquehanna, served as the emcee for the opening ceremony and shared the role Installation Management plays in keeping Defense Distribution Center, Susquehanna operational.
“Our DLA Installation Management team takes care of the day-to-day operations of the installation,” he said. “This includes the coordination and setup of great events like this one today.”
Montefour also highlighted the entertainment, events and activities that were available to attendees throughout the course of the day.
Despite the rain, participants took advantage of multiple activities during the event, including music, free swimming and golf, a magic show, petting zoo, craft stations, various yard games, inflatable activities, dunk tank, balloon artist and a variety of food and drink options.
Throughout the course of the day, approximately 2,000 members of the DLA team attended the event.
