Army Capt. Domonick Sylve, aide-de-camp to the Defense Logistics Agency Distribution commander, was awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal on July 9 for his skillful planning and managing of the day-to-day mission requirements of the commanding general of DLA Distribution, Army Brig. Gen. Richard Dix.
“Capt. Sylve has the toughest job at DLA Distribution headquarters,” said Dix. “He is often in critical and intense situations, and can be counted on to take care of everyone.”
Sylve independently coordinated numerous command visits across the DLA Distribution enterprise, as well as a myriad of conferences and meetings. He maintained an open flow of communication with the commander’s staff, the distribution centers, and the staffs of external organizations.
Dix noted that he has seen tremendous growth in Sylve throughout the last year. “I watched you grow from day one,” he said. “We haven’t missed a mission, and we are always on time and on message.”
Sylve said that working for DLA has been a blessing. “I’ve learned so much under your [Dix’s] command. Never in a million years did I imagine I would be here right now.”
Sylve was born in Long Beach, Calif. He entered active duty in July 2006 at the United States Military Academy Preparatory School, Ft. Monmouth, N.J. He was commissioned in the Quartermaster Corps after graduating from the United States Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management.
His military schooling includes the Quartermaster Officer Basic Leadership Course, U.S. Army Airborne School, and U.S. Army Air Assault School. He holds two Master of Art degrees from Webster University in Management & Leadership and Human Resource Management.
His first assignment was as an assistant operations officer in the 703rd Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, at Fort Stewart, Ga. He later served as the fuel and water platoon leader in Alpha Company (Distribution), 703rd Brigade Support Battalion. He deployed as the forward logistics element platoon leader in support of Operation Enduring Freedom XIII-XIV in 2013. He later served as the company executive officer.
Sylve’s military awards include the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal (with one oak leaf cluster), Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, NATO Medal, and Honorable Order of Saint Martin. He is also authorized to wear the Combat Action, Parachutist, Air Assault, and the German Proficiency (Gold) Badges.
Dix concluded by saying he knows Sylve will continue to excel in the future. “I see you wearing that eagle, and potentially a star on your chest.”
