Distribution’s Ballesteros one of DLA’s first recognized by Navy advancement program

By Emily Tsambiras DLA Distribution Public Affairs

On July 1, Christopher Ballesteros officially became one of DLA’s first Sailors recognized by the Navy’s Meritorious Advancement Program, or MAP.

MAP authorizes commanding officers to advance eligible personnel in paygrades E3, E4, and E5 to the next higher paygrade in order to recognize outstanding performance and progressive capabilities through immediate advancement.

Ballesteros, who is assigned to DLA Distribution Yokosuka, Japan, was promoted to the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class.

According to distribution center commander Navy Cmdr. Brian Johnson, Ballesteros’ advancement was a result of sustained superior performance while working in the organization’s Emergency Supply Operation Center.

While the program has been in existence for some time, in April 2016 the Navy extended it to include shore commands, which enabled DLA to participate and recognize eligible Sailors.
