Susquehanna Vietnam Veteran reflects on his time in the Marine Corps

By DLA Distribution Public Affairs DLA Distribution Public Affairs

Rodney Brown, a material examiner and identifier at Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Susquehanna, Pa., served four years in the United States Marine Corps.  Remembering all of our Veterans this week, DLA Distribution is honoring Brown’s service in Vietnam.

“To me, serving in Vietnam meant honor, duty, and commitment to the call to serve and to defend our country.  In doing my tour of duty, I quickly found out how the spoils of war (combat, physical, and physiological pressures) and the survivor’s guilt changed my life in painful ways.  My experience serving in Vietnam was like swimming in a pool of piranhas.

The biggest lesson I took away from my military service that is still applicable to my job today is to always respect and appreciate the actions of your team.

I also learned to always honor and acknowledge the sacrifices of everyone who steps up to the plate to serve this great nation and defend our freedoms.  It is the least that we can do.”
