Defense Logistics Agency Energy Americas at Houston changed leadership in a ceremony at the Petroleum Club of Houston, Texas, June 26.

Outgoing commander Army Lt. Col. Josielyn Carrasquillo handed over responsibility of the organization to Army Lt. Col. Julian Perez.

“It has been a remarkable journey, and I believe that what DLA Energy and Americas East does every day for the nation is not attributed to any one person,” Carrasquillo said. “It has and will always be because we have worked together as one team, one fight, one family.”

Upon taking command in 2017, Carrasquillo encountered the historic, record-breaking hurricane season where three major hurricanes struck the eastern U.S. seaboard within 90 days. Building a resilient network and robust industry partnerships, the Americas at Houston team provided seamless fuel in its Defense Support of Civil Authorities and the Warfighters from Texas to Florida and then to Puerto Rico. Simultaneously, her team maintained a resilient supply chain and executed over $2.5 billion in energy contracts across 300 partners and 36 defense fuel support points.

Carrasquillo received the Defense Meritorious Service Medal for her achievements. She is transferring to the Pentagon Army G4 Staff, Supply Directorate.

Perez brings with him to the DLA Energy team experience in key Army leadership positions such as Company Commander, Battalion Operations Officer, and Battalion Executive Officer. He also completed a year of industry training with ExxonMobil and served in the Petroleum and Water Department at Fort Lee, Virginia.

“It is truly an honor and I am humbled to be given this opportunity to serve this command that I have been desiring since I was a Captain,” Perez said. “It’s not lost on me what you (Carrasquillo) have achieved here, and I can only hope to continue such great work.”

DLA Energy Americas Commander Army Col. Kevin Cotman presided over the ceremony, thanking Carrasquillo for her leadership and welcoming Perez to the team.
