Asian American, Pacific Islander heritage celebrated in May

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Each year, during the month of May, we celebrate and honor the contributions that Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have made and the part they have played in the history of this country. This year’s theme is “Honoring the Past, Securing the Future!” The theme pays tribute to the Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders and Native Hawaiians who answered the call of selfless service by participating in the defense of our nation. This year’s theme coincides with the 75th Anniversary of World War II.

DOD observes Holocaust Days of Remembrance, recognizes 75th anniversary of liberation

The Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute is highlighting the significant contributions of special observance groups towards achieving total victory in this watershed event.

Carter G. Woodson nominees announced

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Defense Supply Center Columbus has named the 2020 Carter G. Woodson Award nominees. The annual award recognizes two individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the African American community – one each from the Central Ohio community and the Defense Federal community. Past recipients include former Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman, Congresswoman Joyce Beatty and Charles Tennant, the founder of Columbus’ Africentric School.

Land and Maritime associate inducted into Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame

DUBLIN, Ohio — Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine inducted Army Col. John Dreska into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame Nov. 7 during a ceremony at Radiant Life Church in Dublin, Ohio. In addition to his military service, Dreska works for the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime as the division chief for batteries, tires and engines.

Engineers defend title at annual boat race

COLUMBUS, Ohio — To fans of the late 60s comedy Gilligan’s Island, the crew of the SS Minnow were known for their doomed “three-hour tour” that ended with them shipwrecked and marooned on an uncharted island. But for fans of the Defense Supply Center Columbus’ Navy Cardboard Regatta, the two-man crew of the re-tooled SS “Winnow” are known as four-time champions of the center’s annual boat race in celebration of the U.S Navy’s 244th birthday.

65th Infantry ‘Borinqueneers’ honored at annual heritage event

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Defense Federal Community honored a unique military unit during its annual Hispanic Heritage Month celebration Oct. 2. The observance commemorated the historical contributions of the U.S. Army’s 65th Infantry Regiment – a unit comprised mainly of Hispanic Soldiers and known as the Borinqueneers for its Puerto Rican roots.
