DLA Distribution Current Operations chief retires after 38 years

NEW CUMBERLAND, Pennsylvania — DLA’s chief of current operations retired in December following a 38-year career with the Federal government in which he began as a warehouse worker.

The DLA Distribution Tobyhanna, Pa., West Side Storage Warehouse 5 team has been named DLA Distribution Team of the Quarter for fourth quarter fiscal year 2015.

Procurement assistance centers help small-business owners, government buyers

Fort Belvoir, Virginia — The Procurement Technical Assistance Program, created in 1985 to increase the number of small businesses capable of participating in government contracts, is administered by the Defense Logistics Agency’s Office of Small Business Programs, with centers in Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, Guam and all 50 states.

Korea workforce celebrates the holiday season at local restaurant

DAEGU CITY, Korea — Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Korea employees and family members gathered together at the D’maris Restaurant in Daegu City on Dec. 11, to celebrate the holiday season.

Distribution’s Knight honored as DLA Leader of the Year

FORT BELVOIR, Virginia — Perry Knight, chief integration officer at Defense Logistics Agency Distribution, was honored as Leader of the Year at the 48th annual employee recognition ceremony Dec. 10 for his work leading a diverse workforce of 10,000 civilian, military, and contract personnel with a $1.8 billion budget in supporting department goals on a global scale.

DLA employee receives Canadian Meritorious Service Medal

Washington, DC — DLA’s Eugene Shearer received Canada’s Meritorious Service Medal on Dec. 15 for his contributions as chief of the Combined Joint Logistics Branch of Regional Command South, Afghanistan, in 2010 and 2011, while serving as a colonel in the U.S. Army.

Navy Lt. Cmdr. Christopher Mayfield, Defense Logistics Agency Norfolk, Va., chief of staff and chief financial officer, has been awarded the Distribution Field Grade Officer of the Quarter award for fourth quarter, fiscal year 2015.

Distribution’s Gish retires with distinction

NEW CUMBERLAND, Pennsylvania — Sonya Gish, Defense Logistics Agency Distribution’s director of Distribution Policy and Processing, has retired with more than 30 years of dedicated service. On Dec. 22, Gish received the DLA Exceptional Civilian Service Award for her efforts throughout the years in moving DLA Distribution forward as the premier storage and distribution provider in the Department of Defense.
