Annual tornado drill held on Defense Supply Center Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. — Every year, Virginia’s tornado season peaks during the spring and summer seasons. It’s a time when the commonwealth is susceptible to severe thunderstorms which can produce short-lived, but very destructive tornados.

DSCR testing mass warning system during Virginia annual tornado drill March 8

RICHMOND, Va. — Virginia Severe Weather Awareness Week 2022 takes place March 7-11. On March 8, the annual tornado response drill will take place throughout many cities and counties within the commonwealth. During the drill, Defense Logistics Agency Installation Management Richmond employees on Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia, will test the mass warning notification system, Giant Voice, with a "seek shelter" message.

Tornado Safety emphasized in March

Richmond, Va. — As spring approaches, so does changes in weather. One weather event you need to make a plan of action for is Tornados!   According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association’s National Climate Data Center, the Commonwealth of Virginia has an average of 18-20 tornado events per year. The season usually starts in April and ends in November.
