DLA Distribution Expeditionary—Whole of Government Logistics Enabler

Hurricane Katrina, a Category 4 hurricane with a storm surge well above normal high tide levels, swept across the Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama Gulf Coasts in August 2005, with maximum sustained winds at landfall estimated at 140 miles per hour. There were many lessons learned from Hurricane Katrina. One major lesson was that support supplies need to reach victims sooner rather than later following a disaster.

DLA Land and Maritime detachment at Puget Sound participated in the “Meet the Buyers” small business outreach event in Bremerton, Washington, July 17. “Every time we attend an event like this, one of the key takeaways is an increased vendor pool across every socioeconomic category,” Hart said. “New vendors are able to learn about the many resources available to them, and how to successfully supply correct information when quoting DLA requirements. This provides immeasurable intrinsic value in ensuring DLA Maritime – Puget Sound is able to maximize contract award dollars to small business concerns.”
