DLA Troop Support provides 5,000 meals and 63 generators following Hurricane Michael

By Alexandria Brimage-Gray Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support

Before Hurricane Michael hit the Florida panhandle Oct. 10, the Federal Emergency Management Agency reached out to Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support for assistance.

“On Sunday (Oct. 7), FEMA requested over 5 million meals,” said Richard Faso, deputy director, Subsistence supply chain. “The request came in and in less than an hour, the order was processed and sent for distribution.”

In addition to the meals, the Construction and Equipment supply chain provided 63 generator sets to FEMA and the United States Army Corps of Engineers.

Despite having to support two hurricane relief efforts within a month’s time, DLA Troop Support has been able to continue its primary mission in support of the warfighter while supporting the relief efforts at the same time.

“We have people standing by ready to act as we wait for FEMA to provide us what support they need,” said Kaushal S Desai, branch chief, Individual Rations division.

“We take pride in what we do day in and day out. It’s all about teamwork, dedication and commitment to make this happen,” Desai said.

Faso credits Desai and his team’s ability to plan and collaboration with DLA Distribution as the key ingredients to their mission success.

“The Subsistence workforce is unmatched in their care, commitment and dedication to the humanitarian assistance mission,” Faso said.
