Chesterfield Tech Center students visit Defense Supply Center Richmond

By Ellen Vaught DLA Aviation Public Affairs

High school students from the Chesterfield Career & Technical Center, Hull Street, visited Defense Logistics Agency Aviation at Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia, Feb. 27 for an inside look at careers in logistics management.

DLA Aviation Commander Air Force Brig. Gen. Linda Hurry addressed the group and hosted an informative question-and-answer session. Students asked about the general’s military career and careers available at DSCR.

The group enjoyed lunch at the new center cafeteria in the recently completed DLA Aviation Operations Center building where they encountered staffers and had questions answered about daily work life at DLA.

The class boarded a DLA bus and were driven across the installation to DLA Distribution at Richmond where they were greeted by Eric Harcum, a distribution process worker supervisor.  Students were guided through a map distribution warehouse where Harcum educated them on the 90,000 different types of maps that DLA stores and processes for the Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines.

With campuses on Hull Street and Courthouse Road, Chesterfield Technical Center is one of 12 high schools in Chesterfield County, Virginia. It offers vocational training and career readiness training for those enrolled as juniors and/or seniors in any Chesterfield County public high school.  There are currently 1,300 students enrolled at CTC.
