NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. –
Navy Cmdr. Ian G. Iliff, commanding officer of Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Yokosuka, Japan, is proud to continue to provide joint distribution support from a new Sasebo facility.
“We are excited to accept this new and improved multipurpose warehouse building 398 from the government of Japan,” said Iliff. “This warehouse will serve the tenant commands on Commander, Fleet Activities Sasebo, the Forward Deployed Naval Forces in Sasebo, as well as all joint warfighting units seeking support through Commander, Fleet Activities Sasebo. Building 398 will not only enhance DLA’s presence on Commander, Fleet Activities Sasebo, but boost our overall capabilities. These capabilities include closer proximity to our biggest FDNF customers for faster delivery times, larger and better networked office spaces to house our employees, temperature/humidity-controlled locations with ability to store MRE’s [meals ready to eat], a classified vault to hold in transit classified material, refrigerators to bolster our cold chain management mission, loading docks to unload sea van containers, and a much larger and effective wood shop to improve our PPP&M [preservation, packaging, packing and marking] operations.”
Project planning began on Aug. 2, 2002, and was completed on Sept. 30, 2004. The project was officially adopted for design by the Japanese government on Sept. 26, 2012.
This new facility for Site Sasebo will allow the opportunity to better serve the waterfront and deliver support to the warfighter even more effectively ... building 398 will enhance DLA’s presence in the region and boost overall capabilities.
Senior enlisted leader for Site Sasebo, Chief Petty Officer Jeffrey Petros said. “DDYJ is very excited to bring this new building online, and into service. This building represents the commitment of the USA and DLA to our regional customers and partners, as well as the US mission to continue military relations and support with the country of Japan,” said Petros. “Sasebo is the capital for all replenishment at sea [ RAS] ship loadings for ships that operate in the vicinity of Japan and Korea. This building and its new infrastructure will increase our capability to support these CLF [Combat Logistics Force] ship loadings three-fold.”
The event served to celebrate the partnership between DLA, the Japanese government, and the support that DLA Distribution Site Sasebo provides to its customers.
