AF awards first energy savings performance contract of 2018 at Hill AFB

TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. — Logistics In Action: Article originally appeared on the Air Force Civil Engineer Center website — Recently, the Defense Logistics Agency awarded a $42 million energy savings performance contract, to be executed and maintained by Energy Systems Group, at Hill Air Force Base, Utah. This represents the Air Force’s first such awarded contract of 2018.

Alert employee thwarts cyber criminals, preventing diversion of major payment

DLA employees remain the first line of defense against fraud, including efforts to misroute government funds. Recently, a DLA Energy employee thwarted a fraudulent request to reroute a payment to a different bank.

DLA R&D boosts performance, safety for batteries powering weapons systems

Recent work led by DLA’s Battery Network R&D program includes the development of a new lithium ion-based power system for the TOW 2 anti-tank missile and new lead-acid batteries used on armored vehicles, such as the Bradley Fighting Vehicle.

NIAMEY, Niger — Logistics In Action: Article originally appeared on the U.S. Air Forces in Europe & Air Forces Africa website — From conveniences such as hot showers and air conditioning to mission essential needs like internet and communication capabilities, generators power the electronics for the 768th Expeditionary Air Base Squadron at Nigerien Air Base 101, Niger.

Part of AFRL's Forward Operating Base of the Future demonstration is one complete expeditionary microgrid system at Basic Expeditionary Airmen Skills Training (BEAST), Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas. Monocrystalline silicon solar panels are placed on top of each tent for energy production. A trailer (center) holds the hardware, software and lithium ion batteries that form the smart grid and provide energy backup should the grid fail. FORT BELVOIR, Virginia — Strategic and operational issues dominated the annual operating plan at Defense Logistics Agency Energy at the McNamara Headquarters complex at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, Jan. 30.
