2017 SAAPM activities highlighted at DSCC information fair

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (SAAPM) officially kicked off with an information fair at Defense Supply Center Columbus.

Wynueco Washington, a DLA Land and Maritime associate, surprised Lewis with a special performance of “Georgia on my Mind,” a tribute to Lewis’ hometown, during a March 31 retirement ceremony.

Land and Maritime’s Lewis retires after more than 38 years of federal service.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Milton Lewis, DLA Land and Maritime’s Acquisition Executive for the past nine years, retired Mar. 31 after completing more than 38 years of dedicated and decorated service to the Department of Defense.

In recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness & Prevention Month (SAAPM), the DLA SAPR program invites all DLA employees, worldwide, to participate in a virtual “Going the Distance for SAPR” challenge. Our goal is to get the word out across the DLA enterprise about the SAPR program and resources, but most important, participation will show support for survivors.

Haven is also a rear admiral in the navy reserve and director of the DLA Joint Reserve Force (J9).

Women’s Program workshop drives participants to action

COLUMBUS, Ohio — As part of the National Women’s History Month celebration, the Equal Employment Opportunity Federal Women’s Program hosted a workshop for GS-12’s and above titled “Moving Strategy into Action” focusing on women in the workplace. This event took place Mar. 22 at the Armed Forces Reserve Center on the Defense Supply Center Columbus (DSCC) Installation. Twenty-five employees from the federal community participated in this workshop.

Land and Maritime women thrive despite challenges

COLUMBUS, Ohio — “It’s all a mindset.” Olivia Walter lets others argue over the definition of the word ‘disability.’ “You have to take each situation and decide if you’re going to let it define you,” she said. “I choose to define myself – I don’t let challenges determine my identity.”

Columbus Defense Federal Community honors women at annual summit

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Defense Supply Center Columbus hosted its annual Women’s History Month Summit and Luncheon Mar. 22

The Columbus Region Defense Group met at Defense Supply Center Columbus Mar. 3 to discuss economic development initiatives, improvements to public-private partnerships and workforce challenges and opportunities. The group included representatives from local and state political offices, civic leaders and military stakeholders.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime hosted the Level I Mentoring Program graduation ceremony and reception Mar. 1 at Defense Supply Center Columbus. “The Level I Mentoring Program provides the opportunity for employees to find their niche in the organization, build strategic relationships and gain a broader perspective of DLA’s mission and future,” said guest speaker and program graduate JoAnn Phillips.

DLA Land and Maritime recognizes women volunteers

COLUMBUS, Ohio — DLA Land and Maritime recognizes women volunteers during the months of March and April in honor of Women’s History Month and National Volunteer Month. Volunteers are ordinary people who perform extraordinary work. It doesn’t take a great deal of time or sacrifice to make a difference in the life of someone else.

The Defense Federal Community hosted a panel discussion Feb. 22 at the Armed Forces Reserve Center at Defense Supply Center Columbus as part of the installation's recognition of African American Heritage/Black History Month. The panel brought together community leaders to discuss the "Crisis in Black Education."

Carter G. Woodson Awards luncheon honors Black History Month

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Defense Federal Community celebrated African American Heritage/Black History Month with an awards luncheon and panel discussion Feb. 22 at Defense Supply Center Columbus.

DSCC police reunite missing man with family

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Defense Supply Center Columbus police responded to a call at the Yearling Road Gate Jan. 18 after a disoriented, elderly man walked onto the installation trying to get to his father’s house.
