Fitness promoted through May’s Strong B.A.N.D.S. events

COLUMBUS, Ohio — DSCC MWR will use the Strong B.A.N.D.S. campaign to promote fitness, wellness and resiliency during National Physical Fitness and Sports Month in May. DSCC MWR is offering five events to DSCC Associates, Military and families focused on Balance, Activity, Nutrition, Determination and Strength (B.A.N.D.S.) -- all key components of overall well-being and resiliency.

Aspiring para trooper is fitted with the parachute assembly used by service members during flight jumps. Several parents and their kids took the opportunity to harness up as part of their orientation about different jobs parents perform on the installation.

DSCC buzzing with activities as kids celebrate Take Your Child to Work Day

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Under overcast skies the Defense Supply Center Columbus’ Take Your Child to Work Day kicked off in the building 20 auditorium for the more than 150 children ages 9-17 and their parents. Activities included safety presentations to raise awareness, physical activities like dodgeball, basketball, jump rope, and a visit to Land and Maritime’s Electronics Testing Lab.

John Koenigsberg addresses an audience gathered in the Building 20 auditorium during the Defense Supply Center Columbus Days of Remembrance event. Koenigsberg shared his personal story of survival and perseverance during the Holocaust, and stressed the importance of honoring those who lost their lives by keeping their memory alive.

Holocaust survivor shares story of resilience with DLA employees

COLUMBUS, Ohio — John Koenigsberg was just five years old when the Gestapo took away his grandfather and forced his family into hiding in occupied Holland. He would spend the next two years in the care of a Catholic family who took him in, while his father joined the Dutch resistance movement and his mother’s fate remained unknown to him.

Denim Day brings awareness to sexual assault

COLUMBUS, Ohio — April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Denim Day was an event which encouraged people to wear jeans (denim) to help raise awareness and promote prevention of rape and sexual assaults. Land and Maritime leadership approved Wed., April 27th as a command sponsored opportunity to show support for Denim Day.

Elizabeth Kolmstetter, Ph. D., chief human capital officer, U.S. Agency for International Development, provides a leadership workshop at the 2016 Defense Federal Community Women’s Leadership Summit March 23 at Defense Supply Center Columbus’ Armed Forces Reserve Center (Building 2). Kolmstetter’s workshop was titled “How to Become an SES.”

DSCC women attend workshop on “How to Become an SES”

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The EEO Federal Women’s Program hosted a workshop for GS-12’s and above on “How to Become a Senior Executive Service (SES).” It was conducted by Elizabeth B. Kolmstetter, PH.D, Chief Human Capital Officer (CHCO) at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and a total of 40 employees from the federal community participated in this workshop.

Urgency drives DLA Puget Sound team in maintaining ballistic-missile submarines

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The design of the Ohio-class submarine allows the vessel to operate 15 or more years between major overhauls. On average, the submarines spend 77 days at sea followed by only 35 days in-port for maintenance, creating urgency for on-shore personnel who must ensure the vessel is ready when called back to action.

Defense Supply Center Columbus held its annual Shred Day April 20 on the installation. Associates were encouraged to bring anything they wanted shredded, including personal and work documents. DSCC’s Environmental Division processed 7.56 Tons of paper, which translates to saving 129 trees and 38 cubic yards of landfill.

DSCC’s Environmental Division processed 7.56 Tons of paper, which translates to saving 129 trees and 38 cubic yards of landfill.

King’s ship sets sail after more than 30 years in the Navy

COLUMBUS, Ohio — After more than 30 years serving as a naval officer, outgoing Land and Maritime Commander Navy Rear Admiral John King King officially retired and is transitioning to the next chapter in his life. “It’s just been unbelievable how fast my time here at Land and Maritime has flown by and I have to tell you I’ve been extremely fortunate to work with such an inspired group of professionals,” said King.

Info fair kicks off month of sexual assault awareness and prevention at DSCC

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (SAAPM) formally kicked off at the Defense Supply Center Columbus during an information fair held inside Building 20. The Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime's FMWR Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) office planned the April 6 event to showcase weekly activities taking place throughout the month.

Battelle is the world’s largest nonprofit research and development organization, with over 22,000 employees at more than 60 locations globally. The headquarters in Columbus hosted a group of military personnel from DLA Land and Maritime on a tour March 24.

Land and Maritime military members get inside look at research facility

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Two dozen service members from Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime toured Battelle Memorial Institute’s Columbus, Ohio headquarters March 24 as part of the agency’s local strategic industry engagement efforts. The regular trips seek to engage and coordinate with organizations in the community which share comparable values and goals with DLA.
