DLA Information Operations analyst recognized with DOD disability award

By DLA Information Operations

Steven Chu, a management and program analyst for Defense Logistics Agency Information Operations, was recognized this month by the Defense Department as an outstanding employee with a disability.

The annual award honors service members and civilians who support the DOD mission and includes 28 recipients this year.

Chu hopes the recognition helps shift people’s perceptions of those with disabilities.

“Many people with disabilities are still only seen for what we can't do, but what we can't do does not stop us from working hard to support our country and those who fight for it,” Chu said.

Chu works in Battle Creek, Michigan, where he purchases information technology in the Asset Management Division, ensuring required technical reviews are completed and only authorized vendors are used.

Victor Baker, Chu’s supervisor, said Chu is a cornerstone in customer support.

“Steve consistently goes above and beyond in his duties with DLA. His superior customer service and attention to detail doesn’t go unnoticed. He spearheaded the Government Purchase Card process with Asset Management and has implemented seamless processes and procedures to procure items warfighters need.”

Over the last year, Chu ensured IT GPC packages were prepared accurately and forwarded for purchase approval. He also reviewed, coordinated and resolved tickets assigned to him within the seven-day standard.

“Steve has an exceptional ability to provide details and his work ethic makes him an extremely productive employee,” Baker said. “This helps us meet our ever-changing customer needs as we continue to evolve within DLA.”

Chu checks inventory records to see if requested items are already on hand before order placement.

“Steve is a true team player and pushes himself every day to do his best work, train coworkers and improve the process,” Baker said. “It’s a pleasure to have Steve as an employee and I’m delighted that that he was selected for this award.”

Chu said he’s proud to work for DLA and to know his work helps America’s troops.

“I am proud to represent my friends and colleagues with disabilities who have spent their lives and careers showing what we can accomplish when given the opportunity,” Chu said.
