March 20-26 is Severe Weather Awareness Week

The Defense Supply Center Columbus was set to participate in the Ohio statewide Tornado Drill March 23 as part of the state’s Severe Weather Awareness Week but the drill was cancelled due to the forecast of potential severe weather in the area.

2022 Carter G. Woodson Award winners announced during African American History program

Defense Supply Center Columbus’ workforce were provided the opportunity to virtually celebrate the 2022 Defense Federal Community Equal Employment Opportunity African American Employment Black History Month program “Soul Food & The African American Diet: From Slavery to Bondage,” via a live-streamed video that was broadcasted from the Operations Center Auditorium on Feb. 16.

2022 Carter G. Woodson nominees announced

The Defense Supply Center Columbus named its 2022 Carter G. Woodson Award nominees this week. The annual award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the African American community in Central Ohio and the Defense Federal community. Past recipients include former Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman, Congresswoman Joyce Beatty and Charles Tennant, the founder of Columbus’ Africentric School.

Kristine Freels is the new Defense Logistics Agency Installation Management – Columbus Site Director. Freels replaces Dan Bell who retired in December.

Navy once again comes out on top at the second annual Navy Birthday COVATTA

Out of a field of 10 hand built and meticulously decorated boats, Don E’s Revenge, owned by Navy Cmdr. Eric McCandless, blew out the competition and emerged victorious, an improvement on his second place finish last year. Some of his competitors came close but he was sure it was certain modifications that thwarted all others in the field that day in the second annual COVATTA, a abridged version of the annual regatta staged at the Eagle Eye Golf Course pond pre-COVID. The COVATTA was part of the 246th Navy Birthday celebration at Defense Supply Center Columbus.

Second DLA ball promotes pomp, purpose, people

DLA Director Army Lt. Gen. Darrell Williams, who often uses the phrase "the secret sauce of warfighter support" as a description of DLA’s people, invited friends, family members, former DLA employees and dignitaries to enjoy an evening of entertainment, history, fanfare and military traditions during the second annual DLA Ball, Nov. 1. Special guests included guest speaker, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Sustainment Robert McMahon and his wife, Hope, along with Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment Ellen Lord, and her husband, Geoff.
