Subsistence field rep, who helped introduce DoD school produce program, retires

PHILADELPHIA — Russ Brooks noticed in the early 1990s that poor quality produce was being served in the Denver public schools. He later helped user in the DOD Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program to provide produce to schools.

Joe Miller, a Subsistence field rep, stands with the Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture after his watermelon earned second place at the Kentucky State Fair in August. Miller uses his produce expertise to support DLA Troop Support customers.

Field rep uses ‘melon’ to provide DLA customers with fresh produce

PHILADELPHIA — Joseph Miler once held the record at the Kentucky State Fair for growing the largest watermelon. But Miller doesn’t use his produce expertise just to set records. He also uses it to support the warfighter and other customers as a Subsistence field rep.
