Troop Support Black History Month event speaker calls for continuing change, resilience

The continued need to recognize Black History Month was a central theme of the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support’s annual event hosted virtually Feb. 10. Keynote speaker, Shirley A. Jones, 15th national president of the Blacks In Government organization and managing associate general counsel for the Government Accountability Office’s Office of General Counsel, expressed the need to continue highlighting diversity and equality in many aspects of life.

Listening to just the audio of then 12-year-old Christopher Duffley singing the National Anthem at a 2013 Boston Red Sox baseball game, you would think he was Harry Connick Jr., or a young Michael Jackson and not the small red-headed autistic and blind boy who was seen on the screen at the 2021 Defense Federal Community National Disability Employment Awareness Month hybrid program at the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime Operations Center Auditorium on Oct. 20.

European American Heritage Month Spotlight: Shadeed Drakeford

Defense Logistics Agency Aviation recognizes European American Heritage during the month of October. DLA Aviation’s theme is “Reflections of Culture, Pride, Diversity and the American Dream.” This observance is an opportunity for DLA Aviation to recognize and celebrate European American Heritage, to include German American Heritage, Italian American Heritage, and Polish American Heritage. Whether you are German American, Italian America, Polish American or not, it’s important to mark the culture of a people who helped shape our nation. DLA Aviation is honored to highlight European Americans who work daily to provide logistics support to America’s warfighters and other federal customers.

EEOD director reflects on changes in diversity throughout 35-year career

After a storied career spanning more than 35 years in civil service, Harold McManus retires at the end of March from his post as director of Defense Logistics Agency Aviation’s Office of Equal Employment Opportunity and Diversity. The times, they are always changing, and McManus has ridden on the crest of the wave that swept in changes to the way women, minorities and individuals with disabilities are treated in the workplace.

DLA Aviation celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia, employees celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with an opening ceremony Sept. 26, 2017 in the Lotts Conference Center. The guest speaker was Miguel Zayas, division chief of the Procure-to-Pay Process Cycle Integration, Defense Logistics Agency Acquisition, Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Zayas emphasized volunteering for difficult jobs and his determination to excel at each task, no matter how menial, have been the keys to his successes.

“The 10 lenses,” diversity inclusion training held in Richmond

Defense Logistics Agency Aviation employees at Richmond, Virginia, attended a workshop for the quarterly diversity and inclusion training titled “The 10 Lenses,” May 25, in the Lotts Conference Center. The mandated training offered various ways for employees to connect with each other and their internal and external customers, while leveraging diversity to increase productivity, innovation, and carry out the mission.
