DLA Land and Maritime cements legacy of fallen hero

COLUMBUS, Ohio — DLA Land and Maritime on Jan. 21 paid a final tribute to one if its own, renaming a newly renovated building to honor a fallen hero, Stephen Byus.

Construction is underway on the new Defense Logistics Agency Aviation operations center on Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia. Phase I of the project is scheduled to be complete by late summer 2018. When completed, the five-story building will house roughly 875 employees.

DLA Aviation Operations Center Phase I construction in full swing

RICHMOND, Virginia — Construction on the new five-story Defense Logistics Agency Aviation Operations Center on Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia is in full swing and a great deal of progress has been made since the groundbreaking ceremony back on Oct. 15, 2015.

New Army recruits receive updated operational camouflage pattern Army combat uniforms and accessories at Fort Benning, Georgia, Dec. 20. Approximately 1,300 recruits at Fort Benning have already been issued the fiscal year 2016 clothing bag, which includes OCP ACUs and accessories.

Recruits receive new Army uniforms as rollout continues

PHILADELPHIA — Army recruits will now join soldiers already wearing the Operational Camouflage Pattern as the rollout of the new Army Combat Uniform continues.

DLA shows its commitment to the nuclear enterprise

The Defense Logistics Agency demonstrated its commitment to supporting America’s aging nuclear fleet with a memorandum of agreement outlining logistics support to the U.S. Strategic Command at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska, Jan. 7.

The USS Forrest Sherman, a former Navy destroyer, sits in a trench in New Orleans in October. The ship is the first scrapped through a Defense Logistics Agency contract since the late 1990s.

DLA Disposition Services scraps decommissioned ship

New Orleans, Louisiana — A chapter in Navy and DLA Disposition Services history is ending in a trench dug off New Orleans’ Industrial Canal, less than three miles from the French Quarter.

A former Army 5-ton tractor truck acquired by the Torrance County, New Mexico Sheriff’s Department through the DLA Law Enforcement Support Office waits for its next mission Dec. 26. Repurposed with a snowplow, the rig was used to reach isolated rural residents of the county in the wake of heavy snow from Winter Storm Goliath.

Procurement assistance centers help small-business owners, government buyers

Fort Belvoir, Virginia — The Procurement Technical Assistance Program, created in 1985 to increase the number of small businesses capable of participating in government contracts, is administered by the Defense Logistics Agency’s Office of Small Business Programs, with centers in Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, Guam and all 50 states.

DLA employee receives Canadian Meritorious Service Medal

Washington, DC — DLA’s Eugene Shearer received Canada’s Meritorious Service Medal on Dec. 15 for his contributions as chief of the Combined Joint Logistics Branch of Regional Command South, Afghanistan, in 2010 and 2011, while serving as a colonel in the U.S. Army.

The DLA Mobile Command Vehicle is a central communications hub where deployers can relay information to DLA Headquarters via voice, video or data.

New rapid deployment teams complete training, equipping requirements

Fort Belvoir, Virginia — The Defense Logistics Agency’s ability to quickly respond to national emergencies and global contingencies grew stronger as a group of rapid deployers completed pre-deployment training and equipping requirements with the Joint Logistics Operations Center’s Mission Support Team.

Unit conducts valuable training while helping reduce backlog

Jacksonville, Florida — Members of Disposition Services Unit Six of Jacksonville, Florida, used their December drill dates too not only complete the Defense Logistics Agency’s Joint Incremental Duty Training, or “JIDT Block II,” but also to help the local DLA Disposition Services site catch up on demilitarization and avoid shipping items to Alabama for the required work.
