I am DLA Energy

I am Staff Sgt. Andrew Taylor. After serving on active duty for eight years as a 2F0X1 Fuels troop, I transitioned into the Air Force Reserves and elected to become an Individual Mobilized Augmentee. I am assigned to DLA Energy Hawaii on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam as a quality assurance representative responsible for validating proper procurement of Energy assets, which includes fuels of various grades, as well as cryogenic products like liquid oxygen and nitrogen.

During the U.S. Department of Energy’s 2019 Energy Exchange in Denver, Colorado, Aug. 20-22, Utilities Privatization, or UP, was a major topic of discussion. When military installations leverage UP, they shift from the role of owner-operator to utility services customers and obtain reliable, technologically-current utility systems at a relatively lower cost than they would under continued government ownership.

Propelling satellites in to space

Propelled with DLA Energy-supplied high purity hydrazine, the United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket lifted off from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida, Aug. 8. Approximately 2,600 pounds of high purity hydrazine was supplied for the rocket launch and payload and 755 pounds of dinitrogen tetroxide for the payload to deploy the fifth U.S. Air Force Advanced Extremely High Frequency communications satellite.

DLA Director Army Lt. Gen. Darrell K. Williams praised the Energy workforce during a town hall event at the McNamara Headquarters Complex at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, Aug. 12, saying, “I have been here for two years and the longer I am, the greater my appreciation for this phenomenal team. I can’t think of another organization with a broader impact not only on DLA but also on the Department of Defense.”
