New fuel commanders learn roles and responsibilities

FORT BELVOIR, Va. — Six incoming and outgoing DLA Energy regional military commanders participated in a two-day course to prepare them for their role and responsibilities as fuel providers to Combatant Commands at the McNamara Headquarters Complex on Fort Belvoir, Virginia, May 16-18.

16th annual international DLA Energy Europe and Africa Fuel Exchange Agreements Forum

DLA petroleum lab partners with high school in Germany

KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — Two Ramstein High School students are getting hands-on learning at the DLA Energy Europe & Africa petroleum lab in Kaiserslautern, Germany. The six-month Department of Defense Education Activity Europe Career Practicum Student Internship Program matches a student with a professional experience based on their career interest.

Fueling DoD’s northernmost installation

PITUFFIK, Greenland — Once a year, when the weather and ice conditions allow, DLA Energy experts plan for the delivery of fuel to the Defense Department’s northernmost installation, Thule Air Base, Greenland. In late July, DLA Energy quality assurance specialists took advantage of the warmer weather to make the delivery.

New fuel agreement with United Kingdom for Scotland fuel storage

DLA Energy signed a new fuel support agreement with United Kingdom Naval Command Headquarters to improve coordination and contingency operations. This fuel agreement along with ones recently signed with Lithuania, India and Romania bring the total number of DLA Energy fuel agreements with allies around the world to 42.

New commander tours Europe and Africa fuel lab

KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — One of five DLA Energy fuel laboratories worldwide, the Europe & Africa facility at the Rhine Ordnance Barracks in Germany tests around 2,000 fuel samples each year including routine quality surveillance, investigations of possible contamination as well as testing for secured fuels. DLA Energy Europe & Africa’s new commander Army Lt. Col. Benverren Fortune visited the lab to learn more about its capabilities and services June 10.

DLA Energy Europe and Africa changes leadership

KLEBER-KASERNE, Germany — In a time-honored tradition, DLA Energy Europe & Africa Commander Army Lt. Col. Donna Welch transferred her authority and responsibility during a virtual change of command ceremony on Kleber-Kaserne, Germany, June 4. Incoming Commander Army Lt. Col. Benverren Fortune joins the DLA Energy team from DLA Troop Support Europe & Africa, where he served as Operations Officer since 2019.

DLA Energy maintains fuel quality with modified procedures

Quality assurance representatives at DLA Energy are modifying procedures to ensure military fuel remains on-spec during the COVID-19 pandemic. They are closely synchronizing fuel movements with suppliers, and in some cases where there is an acceptable level of risk to the supply chain, using remote oversight methods to overcome restricted travel and social distancing requirements.

NATO partner tours DLA Energy petroleum lab

RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany — Representatives from the Netherlands Ministry of Defense visited DLA Energy Europe & Africa’s Petroleum Laboratory to learn about its fuel testing capabilities, Oct. 15. Leaders toured the Rhine Ordnance Barracks facility in Germany to gain a better understanding of how aviation and ground fuels are tested for quality and purity.

Fueling interoperability with Peru Navy

Expanding its 38 fuel agreements across the world, Defense Logistics Agency Energy signed a new Fuel Implementing Arrangement with the Peru Navy to improve interoperability between the U.S. and Peruvian Navies.
