PHILADELPHIA — The Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support Medical supply chain hosted a pharmacy operations team from the Defense Health Agency Jan. 24 to learn about pharmaceutical programs, capabilities and collaborative initiatives.

But thanks to an adventurous spirit and a supportive workplace, Jeff Crow can make that claim. Crow, a material planner in the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support’s Industrial Hardware supply chain and avid trekker from Colorado, decided he needed to take a trip to provide stability to his work-life balance - and a tropical vacation wasn’t going to do the trick. He needed a challenge. He was going to climb Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro - one of the “Seven Summits,” which are the highest peaks on each of Earth’s continents.

Reorganizing for employee development, future success
PHILADELPHIA — For new employees, “learning the ropes” can be a challenge. So leaders in the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support Industrial Hardware supply chain found a way to help set up certain new employees for success. Developed in 2018, the IH Material Planning training branch took a cue from IH’s Technical and Quality Division and helped standardize training and “build the bench” of more skilled, knowledgeable interns and employees in the Pathways to Career Excellence program, or PaCErs.

Troop Support honors Army reservist’s retirement
PHILADELPHIA — Army Lt. Col. Thomas Wooden Jr. was honored for 29 years of service to his nation at a retirement ceremony held Jan. 4 at the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support in Philadelphia where he spent the last 29 years of his military career as an Army reservist. During the ceremony, presiding official and DLA Troop Support Commander Army Brig. Gen. Mark Simerly thanked Wooden and his more than 20 family members in attendance for their support to the Army and to the nation. “We know that serving in the armed services poses challenges for our soldiers that many civilians and their families cannot appreciate, but you all can,” Simerly said. “And your support to [Wooden] has been essential in his success.”

Process Improvement helps get food to troops overseas faster
PHILADELPHIA — Napoleon Bonaparte has been credited with saying that “an Army marches on its stomach.” As key players in making sure the military has the food they need to literally sustain America’s armed forces, employees from the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support’s Subsistence supply chain understand the importance of that concept. And when they saw potential to improve their process to feed the warfighter faster, they called in the Continuous Process Improvement Office to assist.
