Acquisition professionals video series debuts

FORT BELVOIR, Virginia — The first of nine videos profiling Defense Logistics Agency acquisition professionals debuted on the organization’s YouTube and Facebook sites Feb. 24.

Top enlisted Marine credits DLA for Corps’ success on frontlines

PHILADELPHIA — From meals-ready-to-eat to the boots they wear, the support Defense Logistics Agency provides makes Marines successful on the battlefield, the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps said during a visit to DLA Troop Support in Philadelphia Feb. 17.

Dignity kits and other items provided through DLA are assembled and packaged for delivery to refugees and internally displaced persons in the Middle East.

DLA personnel join counterparts to help save lives of civilians fleeing war, atrocities in Middle East

Defense Logistics Agency personnel recently helped save numerous civilian lives by delivering millions of critical non-food items to refugees and migrants in the Middle East before the arrival of winter, in collaboration with other federal agencies.

Subsistence helps Army Spec Ops nutrition program

PHILADELPHIA — When the U.S. Army Special Operations Command decided to add the nutrition element of a human performance program to the menu at a Fort Bragg dining facility, they asked the Subsistence supply chain to help.

New Army recruits receive updated operational camouflage pattern Army combat uniforms and accessories at Fort Benning, Georgia, Dec. 20. Approximately 1,300 recruits at Fort Benning have already been issued the fiscal year 2016 clothing bag, which includes OCP ACUs and accessories.

Recruits receive new Army uniforms as rollout continues

PHILADELPHIA — Army recruits will now join soldiers already wearing the Operational Camouflage Pattern as the rollout of the new Army Combat Uniform continues.

DLA delivers Christmas cheer to deployed service members

Service members deployed this Christmas will still enjoy a traditional holiday meal with all the trimmings, thanks to Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support.

The aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) departs Naval Base Coronado enroute to Norfolk, Va., to begin a refueling complex overhaul period. DLA delivered more than a million pounds of food to three South American countries for the GW to resupply during its voyage from San Diego to Norfolk, Virginia.

DLA delivers food for historic USS George Washington voyage

PHILADELPHIA — The Navy contacted DLA to order food delivery like ordering pepperoni pies from your favorite pizza place. But it certainly took longer than 30 minutes to deliver more than a million pounds of food to three countries along the route of the GW's historic voyage around South America.

Partnership affirmed with Army Corps of Engineers visit to Troop Support

PHILADELPHIA — Partnering to solve problems early was a key takeaway for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers logisticians who visited DLA Troop Support in Philadelphia Dec. 3.

The Defense Logistics Agency’s regional commanders expressed their gratitude for the efforts of the DLA Troop Support workforce during a visit Dec. 2.

“Working in [U.S. Central Command], where there’s been active war for the last nearly 15 years, we live and die by these supply chains,” said Army Col. Derrin Williams, DLA Central commander.

Williams was joined by Army Col. Elizabeth Keough, DLA Europe and Africa commander, and Army Col. Richard Ellis, DLA Pacific commander. They are DLA’s senior representatives in their respective regions.

While spending the week at DLA Headquarters in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, the three commanders traveled to Philadelphia to meet with representatives of DLA Troop Support’s five supply chains and tour the flag room.

“We mainly wanted to come say thanks,” Keough said. “We couldn’t function without the work that Troop Support does.”

Williams’s gratitude for the Clothing and Textiles supply chain was personal. He was shot by a sniper while deployed to Iraq. But thanks to body armor provided through C&T, the impact was minimized, he said.

“I appreciate the time that goes into testing the [Enhanced Small Arms Protective Insert] plates,” Williams told Keith Ford, C&T deputy director. “I appreciate you making sure it’s right.”

Keough specifically thanked Mary Martin, with the Medical supply chain’s Plans and Integration division, by presenting her a commander’s coin for her work in support of Operation United Assistance. OUA was the Defense Department mission in West Africa to help stop the spread of the deadly Ebola virus

Martin oversaw the transportation of personal protective equipment for personnel from DOD, U.S. Agency for International Development and the Public Health Service. Medical provided more than 1.4 million protective suits, in addition to surgical gloves and surgical masks in support of OUA, Martin said.

Employees surprise Troop Support leaders with award

PHILADELPHIA — Two leaders at DLA Troop Support were pleasantly caught off guard by the actions of their employees Nov. 19.

DLA Troop Support Pacific personnel oversee the delivery of fresh fruit and vegetables to the USS Theodore Roosevelt Nov. 15 at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam, Hawaii. It was the first delivery through Troop Support Pacific’s new long-term FF&V contract.

Troop Support Pacific bolsters fresh fruits, vegetables support to Navy

PHILADELPHIA — The USS Theodore Roosevelt received a special delivery Nov. 15 when it stopped at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. The aircraft carrier was resupplied with fresh fruits and vegetables through Troop Support Pacific, the first delivery through a new, long-term contract that enables better support to Navy ships.

Troop Support serves taste of home to military overseas for Thanksgiving

PHILADELPHIA — Service members around the world will have a taste of home this Thanksgiving, thanks to DLA Troop Support. More than 15,000 pounds of turkey and 1,854 pies have been provided in time for troops in Afghanistan to enjoy their holiday meals.
