Medical employee performs Heimlich, saves choking co-worker

PHILADELPHIA — Kenneth Cummings was working at his desk June 22 when he heard some choking noises. Up until that point, Arthur Tehson had been enjoying what he thought was a creme doughnut.

Matthew Eckenrode, an IH contract specialist, lifts weights during one of his daily sessions at NSA-Philadelphia gym June 23. Eckenrode says by working out daily and maintaining a consistent, healthy diet he has been able to lose 40 pounds and complete numerous races, including the Broad Street Run.

Philadelphia — Seven years ago, Matthew Eckenrode, an Industrial Hardware contract specialist, saw a photo of himself on Facebook and he did not like what he saw. It was at that moment that he decided to make changes and pursue a healthier lifestyle.

PHILADELPHIA — In the spirit of audit readiness, DLA is installing inventory tracking software at military recruit training centers across the country.

PHILADELPHIA — The Defense Logistics Agency’s senior acquisition executive declared in Philadelphia June 10 that procurement is a team sport and it takes the whole acquisition workforce to meet warfighters’ needs.

PHILADELPHIA — More than 100 Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support employees were recognized for various achievements during the quarterly awards ceremony June 14.

IH Academy connects the dots for new employees

PHILADELPHIA — It is always good to know how your job fits into an organization’s big picture, a Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support Industrial Hardware branch chief said during a supply chain orientation June 1.

After the Navy took ownership of the USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000), the supply department works to feed sailors aboard the destroyer May 20 in Bath, Maine. The Zumwalt’s inaugural dinner included lobster tail, crab and filet mignon.

Subsistence delivers lobster tails for inaugural dinner aboard USS Zumwalt

PHILADELPHIA — The inaugural dinner aboard the Navy’s newest guided-missile destroyer included 160 pounds of lobster tails that were delivered just in time, thanks to the DLA Troop Support Subsistence team.

DLA provided additional power generators to the Federal Emergency Management Agency to aid in the recovery effort.

Troop Support helps power FEMA with new generators contract

PHILADELPHIA — An entire region can lose electricity when a disaster strikes. A new DLA Troop Support contract for power generators aims to reduce the time affected communities are left in the dark.

DLA Troop Support Medical employees meet with customers at U.S. Naval Hospital Yokosuka, Japan during a visit to Pacific Region customers in May. The visit was an opportunity to provide face-to-face customer service to military hospitals in the region.
