More than 650 reservists assigned throughout Defense Logistics Agency directorates and major subordinate commands play a vital role in warfighter support, said their new boss, DLA Joint Reserve Force Director Navy Rear Adm. Grafton Chase. The 33-year veteran considers himself a long-term DLA customer, one who relied heavily on the expertise of local commodity, distribution and disposal experts in his previous assignment as head of readiness and logistics for U.S. Naval Forces Europe and Africa.
Some things you absolutely have to get right because mistakes can be too costly. Making sure vehicles turned-in for disposal do not contain any hidden surprises is one of those things Defense Logistics Agency employees at DLA Disposition Services sites in Afghanistan prevent such surprises by literally shaking things loose -- rolling vehicles to make sure anything trapped inside is exposed.
The Defense Logistics Agency Joint Reserve Force brings unique skillsets and assistance to DLA as a whole. This week, reserve personnel from the JRF joined forces with other military and civilians to take part in the Overseas Contingency Operations Readiness Training exercise at two different military installations in Battle Creek, Michigan. The exercise started June 10 and finished June 21.
DLA could not accomplish its mission without its Joint Reserve Force. These skilled men and women provide DLA with a trained, ready and available joint force for contingency operations, operational support, surge support, and contingency planning.
