Visit to site of key World War I victory prompts reflection, appreciation

Nov. 11, 2018, marks not only Veterans Day but also the 100th anniversary of the armistice that ended World War I. Members of the DLA Europe and Africa Enterprise team recently visited the sites of the St. Mihiel Offensive — a key moment in the history of Europe and of the U.S. Army.

DLA team marks Memorial Day in visit to WWI commemoration in France

Over the Memorial Day weekend, a group from DLA Europe and Africa traveled to Château-Thierry, France, to participate in the World War I Centennial Commemoration at the Aisne-Marne Cemetery.

Charles Lindbergh at a St. Louis airfield after his Atlantic crossing, promoting the 35th Division, Missouri National Guard. The barrels and two small cans contained fuel for his transatlantic flight.

Soaring Surplus

Fort Belvoir, Virginia — In the years following World War I, surplus in the form of the Curtiss JN-4 “Jenny” helped two aviation pioneers get their start.

Army Sgt. Leon H. Bell in 1919, after returning from World War I, at the home of his half-sister Lassie and brother-in-law, F.E. Carroll, Park Street, Beaumont, Texas. The U.S. Army continued to issue this uniform into the early days of World War II. DLA Troop Support now supplies all uniforms to U.S. military service members.
