Partnership is the goal at Marine Corps/DLA Day event

Senior logistics leaders in the Marine Corps and the Defense Logistics Agency met at the McNamara Headquarters Complex for the annual Marine Corps/DLA Day July 28.

Iwakuni personnel help clear the way for new commissary

Iwakuni, Japan — Defense Logistics Agency personnel in Japan are helping the Defense Commissary Agency, or “DeCA,” to make way for a new facility by providing disposal support for the removal of an old commissary.

Video prepared by the 1st Cavalry Division helps soldiers understand the steps required for turning in rolling stock like trucks and a variety of other items.

Videos augment support for Army divestiture program

Battle Creek, Michigan — A new series of videos on how to turn in property are designed to help the Army with its divestiture turn-ins to the Defense Logistics Agency. The videos are available multiple places, for various kinds of devices.

Annual contingency training underway

Defense Logistics Agency personnel from around the country and globe converged on Battle Creek , Michigan, this week to kick off the 2016 edition of Overseas Contingency Operations Readiness Training, or "OCORT."

Old furniture gets new life helping less fortunate

Pearl Harbor, Hawaii — Hundreds of pieces of used barracks furniture will be offered to those in need instead of lying in a landfill thanks to the teamwork between the Defense Logistics Agency, Marine Corps Base Hawaii and a local charity.

A contract tug begins its 12-hour journey from Kuwait Naval Base to the port of Doha, Qatar, with the retired Army tugboat in tow.

Agency successfully completes one-time tugboat sale in Kuwait

Kuwait Naval Base, Kuwait — After a year of navigating tricky waters, DLA Disposition Services personnel gave an old Army tugboat its final sendoff for a post-retirement life back at sea.

DLA to help rid Army of excess equipment

Army officials are depending on the Defense Logistics Agency’s disposal and distribution experts to help remove more than 1.2 million pieces of excess equipment from unit inventories in the next two to three years.

Agency employees help sailors ship out their hazardous wastes

Yokosuka, Japan — When used oils or fluids from Navy ships at Yokosuka, Japan, need to be disposed of, sailors turn to DLA Disposition Services for help.

DLA Disposition Services helps police raise autism awareness

Tinton Falls, New Jersey — A New Jersey police department is using a Humvee acquired through DoD's LESO program, which DLA Distribution Services administers, to raise awareness of autism among first responders and others.

Army, DLA officials plan way ahead for equipment reductions, sustained readiness

The Pentagon, Virginia — Defense Logistics Agency leaders outlined how the agency will continue assisting the Army as it removes more than 2 million pieces of equipment from its inventory, during an Army/DLA Day event at the Pentagon March 8.

Charles Miller, a Fleet Readiness Center Southeast material identifier, washes a bin of aluminum scraps collected through the manufacturing process. Washing the scraps removes oil residue and dust so the metal can be taken to Defense Logistics Agency Disposition Services for resale. The recycling of metal scraps is one small part of the facility's drive towards decreasing its environmental footprint. Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan — When it comes to supporting the warfighter across the Combined Joint Operations Area-Afghanistan, no organization does it better than the Defense Logistics Agency.

In front of family members, friends and co-workers, the Stephen F. Byus Community Center was dedicated Jan. 21 during a ceremony on the installation. Suzanna Byus, Stephen's mother, and Navy Rear Adm. John King, DLA Land and Maritime commander, unveil the plaque that will be permanently displayed inside the center.

Former DLA Disposition Services deployer memorialized

Columbus, Ohio — A building at DLA Land and Maritime in Columbus, Ohio, has been named in honor of the late Stephen F. Byus, who was killed in action in 2014. Byus deployed twice to Southwest Asia as a mobilized Navy Reserve sailor serving with DLA Disposition Services.

The weather was real. The hikers were really lost. While it wasn’t a reality show there is a star in this story, a cat from DLA.

DLA Disposition Services scraps decommissioned ship

New Orleans, Louisiana — A chapter in Navy and DLA Disposition Services history is ending in a trench dug off New Orleans’ Industrial Canal, less than three miles from the French Quarter.

A former Army 5-ton tractor truck acquired by the Torrance County, New Mexico Sheriff’s Department through the DLA Law Enforcement Support Office waits for its next mission Dec. 26. Repurposed with a snowplow, the rig was used to reach isolated rural residents of the county in the wake of heavy snow from Winter Storm Goliath.
