DLA Disposition Services scraps decommissioned ship

New Orleans, Louisiana — A chapter in Navy and DLA Disposition Services history is ending in a trench dug off New Orleans’ Industrial Canal, less than three miles from the French Quarter.

A former Army 5-ton tractor truck acquired by the Torrance County, New Mexico Sheriff’s Department through the DLA Law Enforcement Support Office waits for its next mission Dec. 26. Repurposed with a snowplow, the rig was used to reach isolated rural residents of the county in the wake of heavy snow from Winter Storm Goliath.

Stranded travelers, snowbound residents benefit from ex-military gear

Albuquerque, New Mexico — DLA recently helped local communities deal with emergency snowfall by providing excess military equipment donated by DoD through the Law Enforcement Support Office program.

The Ch-46 and V-22 Osprey begins there landing during the CH-46 Retirement Ceremony at the Smithsonian Institution National Air and Space Museum’s Steven Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia Aug. 1, 2015. The ceremony was conducted by Marines from Medium Helicopter Squadron 774 4th Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Forces Reserve, and Marines from Marine Helicopter Squadron One from Marine Corps base Quantico, Virginia.

Big trucks bring big boxes, big bucks saved

December 16, 2015 — DLA Disposition Services has been a Santa facilitator, ensuring some big boxes got delivered to Marines in Virginia a week before Santa makes his normal rounds.

Unit conducts valuable training while helping reduce backlog

Jacksonville, Florida — Members of Disposition Services Unit Six of Jacksonville, Florida, used their December drill dates too not only complete the Defense Logistics Agency’s Joint Incremental Duty Training, or “JIDT Block II,” but also to help the local DLA Disposition Services site catch up on demilitarization and avoid shipping items to Alabama for the required work.

DLA Central commander urges new officers to lead by example, care for families

Tallahassee, Florida — The commander of DLA Central noted the importance of leading by example and of caring for the families of subordinates, in his address to a class of new Army officers on Dec. 11.

A former Navy utility boat arrives in New London, Connecticut, via tractor-trailer Nov. 30. Two surplus boats will be used to ferry passengers between historical sites along the Thames River as part of the new "Thames River Heritage Park" effort there.

Community event delayed but not forgotten

November 13, 2015 — Members of the Defense Logistics Agency in Battle Creek joined with the community and other Defense Department elements for a long delayed event to recognize America’s armed forces along with those serving in the Battle Creek, Michigan, who distinguished themselves through their extra efforts.

Bagram — Twelve trucks loaded with supplies left Bagram Airfield and headed toward Afghan businesses after a "white goods" sale at the Defense Logistics Agency Disposition Services Yard Aug. 7. Sale items included a Bobcat, forklifts and refrigerator containers.
